Sugar craft Competitions are not for the faint hearted, here is a taster of my experiences so far and details of Awards won.
BIRMINGHAM 2012: Entering her first sugar craft competition at the world renowned “Cake International” in Birmingham 2012, Karina entered 4 competition pieces in 3 different categories. All entries are marked out of 100% based on creativity, skill, composition, proportion and visual appeal. Karina was awarded 1st place Gold for her “International Category” entry based on the economic state of Ireland at the time. This entry in addition received “Best In Show International Category”. Both of Karina’s Wedding Cake entries received Silver awards and finally her Wired Sugar Flowers entry received a Bronze award placing her 2nd overall in this category. A fabulous weekend and an unbelievable experience.
At the time Karina’s 11yr old daughter Tarra won a Cert of Merit for her Cinema themed cake.
After her success at her first competition Karina featured in the following magazines/news papers.
Cake Craft & Decoration Magazine February 2013
Edible Artists Network Magazine Premiere Issue 2013
Sligo Champion Newspaper Nov 27th 2012.
DUBLIN 2014: In March 2014 Karina entered the Dublin Sugarcraft Guild competition – (Irelands National Sugarcraft competition), judged by the renowned British Sugar craft Guild. A French themed Wedding Cake and Wired Sugar Flowers were Karina’s entries.
Neither entries this time were awarded. As disappointing as that is, & believe me it is soul destroying it is always worth entering as you gain the experience, & knowledge from the judges even if you don’t agree with their opinion.
Karina’s 8yr old daughter Kaileigh won a Highly Commended Award for her Snow Whited themed cake.
DUBLIN 2016: In March 2016 Karina entered the Dublin Sugarcraft Guild competition again – (Irelands National Sugarcraft competition), judged by the renowned and very strict British Sugarcraft Guild.
A 4 tiered garden themed Wedding cake was entered – winning a Bronze Award.
Wired Sugar flowers for an Easter Bonnet – winning a Commended Award.
At the time Karina’s 10yr old daughter Kaileigh entered a Paddys Day Cake – winning a Bronze Award.
